JUBILEE GUIDED RECREATION TOUR

Our jubilee guests will have three options to enjoy touring of our beautiful campus, educational and recreation sites available closest to the university. You are advised to choose only one site for tour when registering. Please read the three options below

  1. SUA BOTANICAL GARDEN TRAIL WALK

    The Botanical Garden at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Morogoro, Tanzania, is a unique place for visitors who wish to connect with nature, recreate and experience a calm forest condition and learn about local biodiversity at the foot of a global biodiversity hotspot- the Eastern Arc mountains. If you are interested in forest botany, ecology, or simply enjoy nature, this is a perfect option for you. Here are some highlights you should explore when you're in our beautiful botanic garden:

    1. Diverse Plant Species
      • The garden hosts a wide variety of plant species, including indigenous and exotic plants. Look out for native Tanzanian flora as well as plants from other parts of the world.
    2. Medicinal Plants
      • SUA's Botanical Garden has a good number of medicinal plants. You can learn about traditional African medicine and the various plants used for the healing properties.
    3. Ornamental Plants
      • The garden features beautiful ornamental plants, ideal for photographing and enjoying the aesthetic beauty of the garden.
    4. Biodiversity Conservation
      • Explore a unique haven for butterfly, beetles and birdlife that is dedicated to conserving local biodiversity.

  2. HIKING TO THE MORNING SIGHT Hiking to the "Morning Sight" viewpoint is an enjoyable activity for those seeking stunning views of Morogoro town from atop; and a bit of adventure. The hike is perfect for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those looking to connect with the natural beauty of Tanzania. Here's what you can expect on this hike:
    1. Scenic Views
      • As you ascend, you'll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of Morogoro town, the surrounding countryside, and the Uluguru Mountains. The higher you go, the more expansive the view becomes.
    2. Uluguru Mountains
      • The hike takes you through the lush landscapes of the Uluguru Mountains, which are part of the Eastern Arc global biodiversity hotspot. These mountains are known for their rich biodiversity, including many endemic plant and animal species.
    3. Diverse Flora
      • Expect to see a variety of plant species along the trail, including tropical and subtropical flora. The vegetation becomes denser as you move higher up the mountain.
    4. Cooler Temperatures
      • The higher elevation brings cooler temperatures, providing a refreshing break from the warmer climate in the town below. It's a welcome relief during the hike.

Whether you’re there for a peaceful walk, birdwatching, or an educational experience, the forest has something special to offer. Visiting Kitulangalo Forest is an enriching experience, especially for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and those interested in ecology. Here's what you can expect:

    1. Diverse Flora
      • Kitulangalo Forest is home to a variety of plant species, including both dry and wet forest vegetation. You’ll see a mix of miombo woodland and patches of evergreen forest, with tall trees, shrubs, and a rich undergrowth.
    2. Rich Birdlife
      • The forest is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 200 bird species recorded in the area. Expect to see a variety of birds, including the elusive African pitta, green-headed oriole, and other endemic species. Bring binoculars for the best experience.
    3. Wildlife
      • While not as abundant as in larger reserves, Kitulangalo Forest still supports some wildlife. You might spot small mammals like bushbabies, monkeys, and a variety of reptiles and insects. The forest’s biodiversity is part of its charm.
